Travis Kelce may be a future Hall of Famer, but his 2024/25 season left fans and analysts puzzled. After setting the
standard as one of the NFL’s most dominant tight ends, the Kansas City Chiefs star posted a significant statistical decline last year.
His season ended with just 823 receiving yards and three touchdowns, raising concerns about whether off-field distractions had begun to affect his game
Those concerns were echoed by former Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini, who offered his take on Kelce’s performance during an appearance on the Breakfast Ball show.
Mangini pointed to Kelce’s increasingly public lifestyle, including his widely publicized relationship with music superstar Taylor Swift, as a potential reason for his reduced output on the field.
When you look at his offseason last year, it was filled with everything but football,” Mangini said.
“So, he’s got the budding romance, he’s on tour, he’s traveling overseas, all that stuff, which is, which is great.
“Then he’s got the TV show. So, he films the TV show. Good with that, too. Then he’s got the podcast.
“So he’s got so many things in a shortened season be which, you know, you’re hoping the guys are going to get away from football and decompress, but not get away from football and 50 other things
The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them,” Kelce said. “I can’t see myself ever playing anywhere else, so we will deal with that down the road when the time is right. But right now, I am focused on winning the championship this year.”
Kelce’s résumé speaks for itself. Across 12 seasons, he has accumulated over 12,000 receiving yards and 77 touchdowns, becoming one of the most prolific pass catchers in league history.
His chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been a cornerstone of the Chiefs’ success during their recent run of dominance.
