As the NFL gets ready for another exciting season, attention is already turning to Super Bowl 60 — and who will headline the halftime show. According to a report from Page Six, British singer Adele is now in talks to perform at the big game, which will be held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, home of the San Francisco 49ers.
If Adele is confirmed, she would make history as the first British woman to headline a Super Bowl halftime show. The last British act to perform was Coldplay at Super Bowl 50, also held at Levi’s Stadium.
But Adele’s rumored involvement could also bring disappointment for Taylor Swift fans, who’ve been hoping the pop star would land the headlining spot. If Adele takes the stage, it could shut down those long-running Swiftie theories — and end the NFL’s chance of making that dream pairing happen this year.
This wouldn’t be Adele’s first brush with Super Bowl rumors. Back in 2016, the 16-time Grammy winner admitted she had turned down an offer to perform at Super Bowl 51, citing the show’s emphasis on spectacle over music. “First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl… I mean, that show is not about music. I can’t dance or anything like that,” she said. “But they were very kind and they did ask me but I did say no.”
Now, with Super Bowl 60 marking a milestone for the league, it appears Adele may be reconsidering. She was spotted at Super Bowl LVII in 2023, attending alongside her fiancé, sports agent Rich Paul. However, she made it clear she wasn’t there for the football. “Last year I went, obviously I didn’t go for the football at all,” Adele told fans. “I went to watch Rihanna.”
Speculation around Taylor Swift also continues to swirl, especially after her recent appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce. Swift spoke at length about her obsession with sourdough bread — a detail fans believe was a hidden clue. Why? Because the 49ers’ mascot is Sourdough Sam, and Super Bowl 60 is expected to be a major Bay Area showcase. When asked directly about Swift’s potential halftime appearance, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell didn’t shut the door. “We would always love to have Taylor play,” he told NBC’s Today Show. “She is a special, special talent, and obviously she would be welcome at any time…” Pressed further, Goodell added, “I can’t tell you anything about it. It’s a maybe… I’m waiting on my friend Jay-Z to be able to help me… It’s in his hands.”
