Today marks Meghan and Prince Harry’s last day as senior royals. Three months after they sensationally announced their intention to step back as full-time working royal to carve out a new progressive role for themselves, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are to abandon the use of their HRH styles and honorary military titles.

But while most commentators and royal fans were expecting today to be filled with major announcements from Meghan and Harry, the couple’s exit appears to be low-key.

The claim comes despite Prince Harry’s characterisation of his stepmother as “dangerous” in his memoir Spare, which was released in January 2023.
The Duke of Sussex also claimed in his book that Queen Camilla had sacrificed him on her “personal PR altar” and that she was playing “the long game, a campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the Crown.

He even claimed alongside Prince William, they had asked their father to not marry Camilla. Harry detailed confusion with his feelings regarding his stepmother in his autobiography: “Maybe she’d be less dangerous if she was happy?”

Despite their strained relationship, Prince Harry does still have a bond with his father and rushed back to the UK to see him after his cancer diagnosis was announced in February last year. However, the meeting, which took place at Clarence House, reportedly only lasted for 45-minutes.

It has since been claimed Meghan Markle has taken “subtle digs” at the Royal Family in her new Netflix series ‘With Love, Meghan’, an eight-part series where she hosts friends and chefs in a rented kitchen
Branding expert Lynn Carratt, of Press Box PR said: “Her subtle digs to the Royal Family, and to Kate and William perhaps in particular, seem to be, ‘Look at me, I’m happy thank you very much, living my picture-perfect Californian life, Harry and I made the right decision by quitting the Royal Family.'”

Another dig that claims to be towards the royals appears in the fifth episode titled ‘Surprise and Delight’ between Meghan and former Suits co-star, Abigail Spencer. Abigail says, “We’ve all been through a lot,” before turning to Meghan, in what some have perceived as a dig at Meghan’s time with the Firm.
