Denise Welch, Matty Healy’s mother, appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last Thursday. During her appearance, the talk show host told her that Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, explored her son’s relationship with the 35-year-old singer. Andy Cohen then asked her what her reaction to the album was.

Welch replied, “Obviously, on pain of death, can I talk about that episode? But being her mother-in-law is a role that I’m glad I lost.” However, she clarified that she held nothing against Swift, noting, “It was just, you know, it was tricky.”

Welch continued, “She…listen, you’re not allowed to say anything. And then she writes a whole album, you know, about it.” The television personality shared that Healy has taken Swift’s actions in “completely good grace.” She added that he is “very happy” with his fiancée, musician Gabbriette, whom Welch called “gorgeous,” adding, “So we’ve moved on.”
However, Taylor Swift reportedly does not plan to hit back at Welch’s comments, according to a Daily Mail insider.

“It’s a bit obnoxious in Taylor’s eyes, but she has to take the high road,” they shared.

The source continued, “If there was anything that would be in a future song of Taylor’s – if she were ever to respond – she would respond that way. But as of right now, she might just let it slide. She is not going to let Denise ruin her day.”
